It says that because they have not discerned the Lord's body there were many weak and sick. If we do not discern what the Lord's supper is all about, which is recognizing that by Jesus stripes we are healed and by his blood we are cleansed from sin, we will not take hold of God's gift of healing for us and will remain sick. God's will is for us to be well. Jesus demonstrated that as he healed ALL who were sick. You don't see Jesus going around making people sick!
