Why in Romans 5:12 does it say sin entered into the world through one man, when Eve was the first to sin?

In the account in Gen 2-3 both Adam and Eve sin by disobeying God and eating of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. However, Eve is not mentioned in Romans 5 (though Paul does mention her elsewhere, e.g. 1 Tim 2:14). This is presumably because Paul is drawing the contrast between Adam [...]

In 2 Samuel 7:13 it says Jesus will be king forever. This appears to contradict Jesus being the king for the millennium.

The word “forever” in the Bible  would usually be better translated “age” or “of the age” or “age-lasting”.  So Jesus will be king for the millennial age.

Where did Jairus live?

We can not be certain where Jairus lived. In Luke 7:1, Jesus enters Capernaum, and the next day he goes to Nain (v11). Later on in Luke 8:22 he crosses the Sea of Galilee to the country of the Gadarenes (v26) and then later “returned”, which is where he meets Jairus (v40-41). So it is [...]

In Ezekiel 37:24, why does it say David will be king?

The future king of Israel is here named “David” reflecting God’s promise that an heir of David will rule over Israel (cf. Jer 33:17; Luke 1:32). The prophecy is not about David himself, but about his heir, the future king of Israel — that is Jesus.

Why the addition of the Pericope Adulterae into John 7-8?

The story of the woman caught in adultery (John 7:53-8:11) is not included in some of the earliest manuscripts. It was included by Jerome in his translation of the NT and so was in place c.380, if not earlier. If this section was not originally part of John’s gospel, is it an authentic testimony about [...]

Why did Jesus say “I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel”? (Mat. 15:24; cf. 10:6)

The Jews, the nation of Israel, have always been important to God because God made an agreement — a covenant — with one of their ancient ancestors, Abraham (Gen. 15:4-6). Because God loves Israel and is bound to her, he has, throughout history, sent prophets and brought saviours to help his people, Israel (e.g. 2 [...]
